Arc Marion expands IDD digital literacy training

Jan 20, 2026

On January 19, 2026, The Arc Marion in Marion County, Florida announced it received a $20,000 subgrant through The Arc of the United States and AT&T’s Inclusive Digital Literacy Project. The funding will support the expansion of digital literacy training for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), with a focus on building essential technology skills tied to independence, communication, and community participation.

The Arc Marion’s initiative is structured to deliver digital skills training in more than one format. The project includes both in-person and virtual instruction to increase access for participants across Marion County. The program is designed to strengthen practical technology use in daily life, with training that aligns with core digital literacy needs. The Arc Marion aims to reach at least 250 individuals in Marion County through this effort. The training is intended to support participants as they build confidence with technology tools that are widely used for connection and participation in the community.

The project includes several defined components to support consistent instruction and broader participation. Key elements include:

  • Train-the-trainer sessions using AT&T’s digital literacy curriculum

  • Delivery of both in-person and virtual digital skills training

  • Purchase of accessible technology and instructional materials

  • Community outreach to expand participation

These components are intended to help scale training delivery while ensuring materials and technology are accessible for individuals with IDD.

Training topics will include basic computer use, internet navigation, email communication, online safety, and other practical digital skills. The overall goal is to strengthen foundational technology knowledge that can support communication and engagement in daily activities. This initiative is part of a national effort to close the digital divide for individuals with disabilities by ensuring equitable access to technology education and resources.
