The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is implementing a significant update to its Provider Directory with a phased rollout starting in late 2025. These changes will standardize the vendorizations process across regional centers and impact how providers submit applications for new vendor approvals.
Key dates for transition
Beginning December 3, 2025, regional centers will have the option to initiate new vendorizations through the updated Provider Directory. By March 1, 2026, submitting new vendor applications via this digital platform will become mandatory throughout California. This shift intends to replace the older manual submission methods currently in use.
There is one notable exception to the digital mandate: applications related to “Purchase Reimbursement” services (service code 024) can continue to be submitted manually until June 30, 2026. After this date, even these applications must be submitted through the new system.
Implications for providers
Providers will need to review and update their vendorizations procedures to align with the Directory’s requirements. This includes updating vendorization checklists to reflect necessary data points such as National Provider Identifiers (NPIs), service codes, and supporting documentation formats that comply with the new workflows.
Failing to use the digital directory for any new vendor submissions — except Purchase Reimbursement before the June 2026 deadline — may result in processing delays or application rejections. Ensuring familiarity with the new streamlined process will be critical for uninterrupted provider authorization.
Purpose and benefits of the update
This transition toward a centralized Provider Directory is designed to reduce inconsistencies across regional centers and expedite vendor approval timelines. By standardizing data submission requirements and workflows, DDS aims to improve transparency and ensure statewide compliance with policy mandates.
Providers are advised to take advantage of the transition period to review internal processes and are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the updated vendorization platform ahead of the mandatory deadline. This modernization reflects broader efforts to improve administrative efficiency and regulatory adherence within California’s IDD services landscape.
