Inclusive league launches in Southwest Florida

Jan 23, 2026

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida and Easterseals Florida have partnered to launch a new inclusive sports league for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Southwest Florida. The update reflects a growing push to create more inclusive, community centered opportunities for adults with IDD. The league is designed to bring adults with IDD together through team-based experiences, physical activity, and social connection across the region. Organizers have structured the league to celebrate ability, foster community, and support overall wellness.

Partnership connects Goodwill and Easterseals services

The new league draws participants from two established service areas. Participants will come from Goodwill’s Pathways to Opportunity program and from Easterseals’ adult services. By building the league around these existing programs, the organizations aim to create a consistent recreational option that aligns with the support already available to adults with disabilities.

The collaboration also highlights shared priorities across both organizations. The partnership emphasizes inclusion, independence, and wellness, while working to expand access to meaningful recreational opportunities for adults with disabilities in Southwest Florida.

Rotating activities hosted throughout the year

The league will follow a rotating schedule of friendly competitions and recreational activities. Both organizations will host activities throughout the year, creating multiple opportunities for participants to engage in team settings and stay connected over time. This structure keeps the league centered on participation and community building, with a focus on welcoming adults with IDD into organized, group-based recreation.

Building community through inclusive recreation

The league’s launch underscores the broader interest in programs that combine physical activity with social connection for adults with IDD. It also reflects an approach that treats recreation as part of a community-centered support network, rather than a standalone activity.
