The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) has strengthened its governance by adding six former LuMind IDSC Foundation board members. This growth expands the board to 25 members, reflecting the recent merger between the two organizations finalized on October 1, 2025.
The new directors—Anthony Providenti, Hector Guinness, LaSandra Brill, Karen Gaffney, Beverly Paperiello, and Ludivine Van der Heyden—bring extensive expertise across research, advocacy, and community engagement. NDSS leadership emphasized that the board's expansion supports the design of a new three-year strategic plan scheduled to launch in mid-2026. This broader leadership base aims to extend the organization’s influence geographically, particularly enhancing representation on the West Coast.
The integration of LuMind IDSC into NDSS marks a significant step in unifying research capabilities, policy advocacy, and community services for individuals with Down syndrome. This organizational realignment is positioned to accelerate progress in health equity, research advancements, and inclusive support systems. By merging resources under one umbrella, NDSS aims to deliver more cohesive and effective programs nationwide.
